ActionAid, La Casa delle Donne Lucha y Siesta and SCUP-Sport Cultura Popolare
Invite everyone on the 6th of April to spend a day of sociability and solidarity with the refugees of Nerola Cas, at the headquarters of Scup in Via Stazione Tuscolana 84, Rome.
From several months the women's house Casa delle Donne Lucha y Siesta is partner in the European Project AFTER - Against FGM / C Through Empowerment and Rejection - which aims at fighting in female genital mutilation and all forms of gender discrimination in Europe. The project is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union and it is implemented in five European countries: Italy, Spain, Ireland, Sweden and Belgium.
In the past months, in addition to organizing information and communication initiatives on the subject in Rome, different collective paths of reflection and personal growth and awareness on the issue of FGM were activated. The participants are young boys and girls, women and men, residents in Lazio region and coming from countries where female genital mutilation is still practiced and spread. In these Empowerment Paths the participatory methodology Reflection-Action is used: the methodology was established by ActionAid in years of working with marginalized communities in developing countries and subsequently adapted to the European context. Especially the male refugees of Cas Nerola, coming from different countries of Central Africa, embarked on a broad and diverse journey that has introduced the subject of inviolable rights and the contrast to all forms of discrimination, deepening the concept of autonomy and acceptance, and finally dealing with complex issues such as relationships, sexuality and FGM.
Thursday 6th April is therefore not only the first public restitution moment on this training but also a verification of how practices derived from a self-organization can build citizenship processes and acceptance, where rights are guaranteed and protected. A moment of solidarity and debate, free and open to the participation of all people.
